Centre for International Cultural Heritage Organizations

The first of its kind in the region, the Centre for International Cultural Heritage Organizations was opened by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, on December 22, 2019. The Centre features six international organizations specialized in the field of cultural heritage, namely: ICCROM Center - Sharjah, the Middle East and North Africa Regional Centre of International Organization of Folk Art (IOV), the International Council of Organizations of Folklore Festivals and Folk Arts (CIOFF), Olymias Giochi Tradizionali Della Sardegna (Olymias of Traditional Games in Sardinia-MENA Office), the Chinese Centre for Cultural Exchange (ZJSU University), National Institute of Archeology and Heritage in Rabat (MENA Office) .

These organizations work to preserve and protect the tangible and intangible cultural heritage, and to make significant contributions in the field of care and protection of heritage from loss and extinction within a strategic vision and tight policies. Therefore, their presence is important and necessary to enhance communication and cultural exchange, as well as the openness to global experiences in safeguarding cultural heritage and to support efforts in this context. Opening of the Centre comes in line with directives of His Highness Ruler of Sharjah aimed at making Sharjah an incubator for world heritage, and open to the cultures of peoples and the world heritage with its various elements, symbols, components, bodies and organizations operating in this field.
